Apparently, Samy Vellu was just a bit ‘riled up’ and got his feathers ruffled at his little showpiece of a gathering recently at the Putra World Trade Centre to ‘rebrand’ the MIC. One newspaper account explains the matter as follows:
‘MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu's dinner for branch chairmen yesterday evening turned sour when many began to leave immediately after having their food, an hour before the function was due to end.
'A visibly upset Samy Vellu walked around the Dewan Tun Razak Hall at the Putra World Trade Centre and ordered those who were about to leave to sit and wait till the event ended.'
'He even went outside the hall and corralled those who had been smoking back inside. He then ordered the guards to close the shutters to all the entrances to ensure that no one left the hall.’
Ahh…The predicaments of being a so-called leader.
Samy Vellu is quoted to have told the members present that: "You must be wondering why is this idiot doing all this?”
"If you think this was a waste of time, I apologise. I will not make such arrangements in future."
My, my…seems like someone got a little ticked-off by the fact that his party members weren’t too keen on spending ‘quality time’ with him at his party. Poor Samy…looks like his big bash was not too much fun after all. What a shame!
It’s quite embarrassing, if you ask me, that his fellow party comrades were more interested in eating and scurrying out of the venue than enduring a whole evening with Samy. It is quite revealing that the thought actually crossed Samy’s mind that perhaps [most of?] his fellow MIC mates there do think of him as, in his words, an ‘idiot.’
And imagine just how pathetic it must be to have to desperately order guards to close-off entrances to your party so your guests don’t take-off on you! Leave it to Samy Vellu’s MIC to come up with all sorts of firsts.
Seems like Samy might have done more to re-brand himself than reinvent the party! I’ll say it sure appears to be one heck of a re-branding! Would you blame anyone for wondering if the man has any self-dignity?
Just when you thought you'd seen it all from the man, along comes another classic and memorable episode of comic relief in the pathetic legacy of a now visibly desperate ‘idiot.’
